The Elephant Saved the Calf at the Last Second
The river looked calm at first, its surface shimmering under the late afternoon sun. A young elephant calf wandered too close to the muddy bank, curious and unaware of the danger beneath its tiny feet. In a sudden slip, the ground gave way, and the calf tumbled toward the rushing water. Its frightened cries echoed across the riverbank, sharp with panic.
Without hesitation, the mother elephant charged forward. Dust flew beneath her powerful legs as she reached the edge, her heart racing faster than the current below. The calf struggled, its small trunk flailing as the water pulled it closer to the deeper flow. Every second mattered.
With a thunderous step, the mother stretched her trunk, wrapping it firmly around the calf’s body. The river surged, trying to claim its prize, but her strength was greater. She planted her feet, muscles tightening, and pulled with all her might. The herd gathered behind her, rumbling encouragement, forming a wall of protection.
At the last second, the calf was dragged back onto solid ground. Wet, shaking, but alive, it collapsed beside its mother. She touched it gently with her trunk, reassuring and calm. The danger had passed, and once again, a mother’s courage had won against nature’s cruel test.
